Local Rules of Golf

Local Rules of  Golf for THE GAME

  • Lift-Clean-Place in the fairway only, through the end of November.
The course seems to be unusually wet so you may lift, clean and place your ball if you are in the fairway. You may NOT touch a ball in the rough or in a hazard.
  • Adjust placing your ball on the tee
Since so many of the tee boxes at The Strand are not always flat in the normal teeing area, you may take your ball back from the tees as far you want to find a flat spot. You may NOT move ahead of the tees.
  • USGA 2019 Rules Changes are being adopted by “The Game” immediately. Please refer to the video on this website for more details on those changes.
  • Free Drops must be within one club length of where the ball actually is. The exception is a ball on the cart path - you may take your stance and then one club length. Taking a drop of more than one club length results in a penalty stroke.
  • Lost Balls vs. Out of Bounds is very hard to determine as many of the holes are not marked properly. In order to speed up play and have everyone playing the same way, we will treat a lost ball the same as an out of bounds ball. You may take a drop within two club lengths of where you “think” the ball crossed the area, where it cannot be found.  You will also take a penalty stroke for this drop. You may also go back as far as you want from the point where the ball entered the “lost area” keeping that spot and the flag stick in a line. You may not take a lateral drop of more than two club lengths.
  • Maximum number of strokes on any hole is a NET Double Bogey.
Once you have reached a score that is equal to a net double bogey, you may pick up your ball. If you pick up your ball prior to that, you are out of the hole and your score is a net double bogey.
  • Taking a drop when the ball is lost in the preserve (brush area) is always going to be on the other side of the preserve. Usually the drop area is marked but in some cases it is not, you should take a drop at the spot where you think the drop area should be.
  • Taking a drop when the ball is lost on THE PRESERVE COURSE HOLE #1 - Players may take a drop on the other side of the preserve (brush) area on The Preserve Course Hole #1 and they will be hitting their third shot.
  • Taking a drop when the ball is lost on THE SABAL COURSE HOLE #1 - Players may take a drop on the other side of the preserve (brush) area on The Sabal Course Hole #1 and they will be hitting their fourth shot.

All Local Rules of the Club at The Strand are always in effect for
THE GAME.

NOTE: Local Rules may be waived or changed at any time for
an event, a game or to conform with the normal rules of golf.
